Happy Halloween!

Watch out!
It's the Master Ninja Warrior of the Universe!

{These are pictures taken at the Gymboree Halloween Party.}

Sand is Cool

Ugh I’m still sick. Fortunately the armadillo seems to be doing a lot better. His fever broke and his congestion has substantially lessened since this weekend. He sneezes and coughs every now and then but not as consistent as it was earlier. But for me my nose is stuffed and I’m starting to cough as well as continuing to sneeze. How uncomfortable.

I took the armadillo to the park today since the weather was warmer and he’s on the road to recovery. He had a blast as always. I put him in the swing and for some reason every couple of minutes he wanted to switch from the left swing to the right swing. I didn’t get it. But he would want out of the swing he was in at the moment and wanted to move to the swing right next to him. I’m sure he had his reasons. Sand is a new and exciting world to the armadillo right now so he absolutely had to throw sand in his hair and eat a few grains here and there. Bleech!

Since my armadillo is a boy I guess I’m going to have to get used to him getting his clothes soiled. His brand new shirt from Gymboree had stains on the back and on the sleeves. I think it was from climbing on the walls and from playing on the sand. I hope that Dreft can get those stains out. Oh boy!

I’m not sure if we’re going to take the armadillo out for trick-or-treating tonight. We’re debating whether he’s too young to enjoy the whole experience. We’ll see I guess …

Under the Weather

Well the virus is making the rounds in the house. B-Dad and I are also sick. Ugh. What a way to spend the weekend. It’s horrible to be sick and hapai at the same time. I can’t take the OTC medicine I would normally take. For example I would love to swallow a couple capsules of Nighttime Nyquil so that it can help me fall asleep. But because I’m hapai means that I have a limited amount of medications I can take. Sigh I just feel like I’m going to suffer tonight. I took a Sudafed but that’s it. No “put me to sleep” drugs.

I hope the armadillo sleeps well tonight. Last night he woke up once. Originally B-Dad thought he had a fever again but he was just warm in his sleeper pj’s. We gave him a little more medicine and “pretended” that it was time for bedtime. We went through the same motions that we do when it’s time for nene. His diaper was changed and we read him a few bedtime stories. It seemed to do the trick. He eventually fell asleep and slept through to morning.

This morning wasn’t too great for the armadillo. He was coughing so much he couldn’t stay asleep. He probably only slept for about 30 minutes total. This afternoon was much better but I’m only referring to the sleeping. His breathing got worse and he started to wheeze so B-Dad and I gave him his nebulizer treatment. The armadillo despised it with a passion! Poor baby was crying and swatting away the mask. We felt bad but knew it was for the best. That’s the same way it was tonight. He got hysterical and was wriggling around on B-Dad’s lap. We both felt soooo bad putting him through it. How do you reason with a 17 month old that this is all for the better and that we are not punishing him? I wish I knew.

Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day for all of us. I hate being sick especially when I can’t be the “sick baby” of the family.

Sniffle Sniffle

My poor armadillo is sick. Poor baby has a cold … he has the sniffles, sneezing, and coughing. His eyes are watery and he’s exhausted. B-Dad claims he got this virus from Gymboree but I beg to differ. I blame B-Dad and his infrequency with washing his hands. Plus his daily contact with other people at his workplace who I’m sure carry their own germs with them. I mean the armadillo can’t catch all of his illnesses from Gymboree. Why is it that men find it so easy to blame Gymboree? {Right sis?} … 5 hours later the armadillo has a fever as well. A slight fever … 100.1 degrees. We gave him some Tylenol so that should take the fever down. We also gave him some Night Time Triaminic that will hopefully help him sleep. Thank goodness for medicine.

Mommy Talk

The armadillo has been walking by himself for about 4 months now. He’s building his skills as a walker and almost turning into a runner. Though sometimes he walks as if his first name is Jose and his last name is Cuervo. Seeing that I am a first time mom I don’t know when a child actually starts walking without looking intoxicated. Hell sometimes I walk as if one leg is shorter than the other. That being said, I’m not sure if the woman with her 2 children whom I was talking to for a few minutes this afternoon was being rude, ignorant, or just trying to make conversation. She was sitting by the fountain with her 3 year old and infant daughter. She asked how old the armadillo is and when he started walking. I told her that he started around 13 months and he is now 17 months. She commented, “Oh, well I guess boys develop later than girls.” For a few seconds I didn’t know what to say. Was she implying that he’s walking as if he just started walking yesterday, not for the past four months? Then she asked me if I was expecting. I answered yes and then she started saying “Oh, I wasn’t sure blah blah blah …”. Then she mumbled something then quickly said, “I can’t believe I just said that.” What did she say? Hell if I know. But then I started thinking it was better that I didn’t hear it because I might have gotten disturbed. Then I just sighed and walked away. I don’t know what this woman was thinking but she was just getting weird. She was still talking when I left to chase after the armadillo. How bizarre.

While I was in Target I met up with a woman and her two sons at the café area. She was telling her oldest son how he was not going to get an Icee because he got out of his chair {the chair attached to the shopping cart}. Her son was pleading with her but she remained firm. She then turned to me and the cashier and was mentioning that she was torn in what to do. She pointed out that she had to remain firm and consistent and I agreed. Though I told her that I didn’t know if I could be as strong as she was. I was thinking that I might eventually cave, but she didn’t. She only bought one Icee for her younger son. I was impressed. Fortunately for her was that one, her oldest didn’t throw a hissy fit about it and two, her younger son shared his Icee with his older brother. I can only hope that all my disciplinary actions will have those results. Yeah right!

Rain Rain Go Away?

We finally have rain, well a little rain. I can’t remember the last time it rained here. Believe it or not but I actually miss this type of weather. Can you actually get tired of sunny warm weather? I guess it’s the coolness of the weather and the ability to wear your snuggly clothes is what I really miss. I don’t miss going out when it’s raining, especially trying to keep the armadillo dry when the rain is falling. I don’t miss getting wet and having to balance an umbrella and the armadillo.

I know Aiko is not happy that for the next couple of days we’re supposed to have rain. For some reason she loathes the rain. We have a couple of dog houses out in the backyard but she doesn’t seem to understand that those houses are “shelter” for her. I wonder if Miso will comprehend the whole doghouse effect. I know her previous owner had her outside the whole time {poor baby} so I assume she’s used to rain. B-Dad doesn’t want them in the garage for fear he’ll have to clean it again. No more doggy poo or pee for him.

Halloween is approaching. I’m not sure if we’re going to take the armadillo out trick-or-treating. I don’t think he’ll last very long outside and I know he definitely won’t be walking up to doors. Ah I guess we’ll see.

We went to the mall today. Had to pick up more of Grandma’s wish list items at Bath & Body Works. The armadillo was walking around the mall. He looked so proud walking around going window shopping. We stopped for about 15 minutes in The Picture People. That way I could sit down on one of the cushions and the armadillo could play with the huge camera they have setup and a giant pumpkin. We “pretended” that we were waiting for someone. How sneaky. He ended up walking almost the entire length of the mall. By the time I was ready to get lunch thankfully he was all set to go back into the stroller. Whew. Mama thanked him profusely for not throwing a fit. It must be my lucky day today.

Doomo Arigato Cousins E & W

Dear Cousins E & W ~

Thank you for the generous Halloween gifts. I love the colored puffed rice. My mama took forever to open the package. I think my screaming helped her open it because she started to work faster to get it undone. I had a lot of fun eating the little rice pieces because my lips turned blue from the coloring. My pappy and mama were laughing at me and I couldn’t figure out why till they said something.

My mama won’t let me play with it, but my eyes got so big when I saw all of those cats’ eyes. I’m not sure why my mama calls it that but she does. That’s gross. But I do get so excited when I get some to eat. It’s a good thing she doesn’t like it as I would have to share but I don’t.

I think it’s going to take awhile for mama to read those books to me properly as I think she’s having a tough time saying the Hawaiian names. I can’t tell if it’s wrong or if she’s making it up. Oh well.

What are you dressing up as on Halloween? My costume is a secret. My pappy and mama constantly gush over me when I wear my costume. I don’t see what the big deal is but they love it. Parents can be so silly sometimes. Mama doesn’t want to put a picture up till Halloween arrives. It’s not like it’s Christmas but that’s just her.

Hope everything is going well for the both of you. E ~ How’s school going? Has W started walking yet? W, you have to start walking soon so we can run circles around Grandpa D and wear him out. I’m fine with the exception that my molars are coming in. I got a couple on the top and bottom peeking through and they are so irritating.

I’m optimistic that we’ll see each other soon. Take care and I miss you both!

Love ~ the Armadillo

Sweets for the Sweet

I’m still longing for that diaper bag by Chester Designs. I want it but I’m unsure about the price. It’s not that expensive but it’s just that my diaper bags have a life span of about a month at the most, then it’s on the top of the pile of other diaper bags. Used and discarded, they sit collecting dust. Ah, I’m still on the fence.

I think after this post I should get back to my reading. It’s been about a week since I last read. But I’m tired as well. I know that if I start reading I’ll get more tired. Oh woe is me.

What’s for dinner tonight? I’m thinking I could eat the leftover meatballs and pasta from last night or … Dinner is always a big decision that requires thought and creativity. Do we eat in or eat out? Japanese? Chinese? Pizza? Mexican? Decisions, decisions, decisions, … We had Chinese from Panda Express today, so I’m not really in the mood for Chinese again. Hmmmm …. Maybe Thai food? I’ll keep that in the back of my mind. B-Dad was talking about Safeway’s revamped bakery section at the location near the Thai restaurant. Perhaps I can convince him to pick up some sweets for us. The hormone is craving sweets as I currently chomp down on a piece of dark Belgian chocolate.

Chester

I am in love with this diaper bag by Chester. It’s the messenger bag style in Truffle. It looks roomy and easy to hang on the stroller. I don’t need anything too big with the armadillo being older. I am still on the fence with this purchase. On the one hand this bag looks very accomodating but I really don't need another diaper bag. I'm sure B-Dad will agree.

If you adore this bag and want to see more, visit Chester to see more styles. Don’t forget to pay a visit to Mommies with Style …. They are offering a fab coupon code for purchases from Chester … 30% off!

Bird Bird

I took the armadillo to the park this morning. He was having fun busily exploring all of the different types of ground covering … sand, tan bark, foam, grass, etc … The armadillo is improving his walking skills on the differing types. He is also very smart in knowing that he needs help and reaches his hand out to me asking mama for assistance. There was a little playhouse with a table and bench inside. The armadillo had a fit of the giggles picking up and throwing sand on the bench. I wasn’t sure what was so amusing but he found it hilarious. I loved sitting on the wall listening to him having such exuberance playing. It was so relaxing and pleasing to watch my little boy amuse himself. Next time I’ll put him in the swing. There were a couple of babies being pushed around. They looked like they were benefiting from swinging back and forth.

The armadillo had a blast looking at the birds and chasing after them. I don’t think he meant to chase them. I think he wanted to just get as close as possible. He waved his arms up and down, performing the sign for “bird”, and shrieking with bliss.

As long as the weather is decent I plan on taking him to the park as much as possible. Winter is approaching and that means bad weather. I want the armadillo to get as much as possible out of going to the park. He always has fun when we go. We were there for about 45 minutes and when I asked if he was ready to leave he put his arms up, waiting for me to pick him up. What a good boy! No fussing whatsoever. Whew.

1-2-3 It's a Gymboree Day

Trick or Treat at Gymboree? Well I can’t really say for sure but it seemed more like a treat for the armadillo. We went to their Halloween party today. There were activities, snacks and crafts. It was about 1 ½ hours in total. There were sooo many kids there. Too much in my opinion if you ask me. With the parents and kids in that play area it got a bit too crowded. I don’t know if it was a money-making decision but they should have but a cap on it at no more than 15 kids. Change that number to maybe 10 children since the parents would be there as well.

It was a delightful sight to see the toddlers and babies in their costumes. Of course you had the obligatory princesses and pumpkins. There were a couple of ladybugs and an Elmo. We took some great pictures of the armadillo in his costume. He looked so cute! I’m not going to post a picture of the armadillo in his costume yet since I want to wait till Halloween comes. So you’ll just have to wait! But let me tell you he was the most adorable child there! Obviously that’s just my biased opinion.

Since the reviews pretty much blasted the movie Doom as one of the worst movies this year, B-dad and I decided to wait till it came out on DVD. What a bummer too because we were so looking forward to it. Oh well. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire comes out next month and I don't care what the reviews say. I'm definitely seeing the movie.

Cranky Cranky

It doesn’t feel like it’s a Friday. But I do feel tired as if I worked a 60 hour work week. But hey, I’m a SAHM, so it’s almost like I did. The armadillo was overly fussy today. I’m not sure if it’s because his molars are coming in but every little thing was upsetting to him. Its times like this that I wish he could tell me what is bothering him. It would have been helpful to hear him say something like, “Mama my mouth hurts … “, “Mama I’m hungry …” or “Mama I want to see the movie Doom tonight.”. I’m just kidding on the last one. Poor baby also had diarrhea yesterday but I don’t think it’s a problem because he hasn’t had that problem today.

He’s sneezing on a consistent basis lately. No sign of yellow snot or a fever, so I’m not sure if it’s allergies or the housecleaning people are not vacuuming very well. But he’s been sneezing every day. I’m not sure if it’s related to his teething … I know runny nose is symptomatic of teething, but sneezing?

As the weather gets cooler we’re going to have to get Miso a sweater to keep her warm while she’s outdoors. Now just to get this straight I’m not the type to carry a dog in a bag and dress her like a pretty pink princess, thus I’m on the lookout for warm clothing that’s not so girly. I don’t plan on dressing her up or toting her in a pink carrier. I never did understand the need for that. I guess people not only think of their canine companions as children, but want to dress them up that way as well. Don’t get me wrong, Miso is my baby just like Aiko is, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to put a pink tutu on her. Heaven forbid I do.

DOOM

I am surprised that it’s Thursday already. The days have flown by this week. Earlier on I couldn’t wait for the weekend, and now it’s almost upon us. How nice.

We don’t have huge plans this weekend. Oh but I almost forgot. “Doom” is opening tomorrow. Heard of it? It’s the new movie featuring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. It based on the popular video game of yesteryear. Here’s a brief synopsis from Movies.com … “At a remote research facility on Mars, a team of scientists cracks the genetic code. But when communication fails, the place gets a Level 5 quarantine, and the only people allowed in to investigate are the Marines of the Rapid Response Tactical Squad, including their commander, Sarge (Johnson). They discover that the researchers inadvertently opened up a portal to hell and unleashed a slew of demons.” I never played the game but I’m a huge fan of the Rock from his WWF days. Plus I love an R-rated action movie with demons and monsters. I think B-Dad and I will take turns this weekend to see the movie.

I returned a bunch of stuff at Target today. Boy I am thankful for their no-limit return policy. It’s just things I’ve bought which I of course, changed my mind about later on. It’s a good thing I returned all of those items because it offset my purchases from today. Laugh B-Dad, laugh.

The armadillo got more boo-boos on his little pinky. Since he’s revved up his engine more lately when getting around he’s falling more. Lately he seems to land on his little pinky and it’s getting scraped up. Poor baby fell while circling the fountain outside of Borders and scraped up his fingers. There was a little blood but nothing major. He cried for about ½ minute and quickly wanted me to put him down. His pappy would be proud. Of course I wanted to hold him and kiss him all over his face, but he wouldn’t have anything to do with that. My little boy is growing up. I’m constantly reminded of that every day …. {mommy sad}.

Chicken Pot Pie

Tonight is chicken pot pie … I think. B-Dad and I think the chicken pot pie from Costco is divine. All we have to do is stick it in the oven for 1 ½ hours and voila, it’s done. We haven’t had it for awhile and it seems like a good time to have it for dinner again. The armadillo should be able to eat it too. The chicken and vegetables are soft, and the crust is tasty. The only bummer is that it takes so long to cook. I’ll have to put it in the oven soon if B-Dad comes home at the usual time.

Miso is adapting well to life here with us. She’s very attached to people and her big sister Aiko. It seems as if she’s most comfortable when she’s lying next to Aiko on Aiko’s bed. How sweet of Aiko. I’m hoping we can take her in for grooming soon. At her latest vet visit, the vet noticed that she had flea droppings on her. Yuck. But we’re supposed to wait a couple of weeks after her surgery to bathe her unfortunately. I guess we don’t want her stitches to come out. I’ll probably brush her tonight and use the doggie wipes I bought from Target to try to clean her a bit more. Of course her big sister Aiko reeks as well.

The armadillo and I went to Broadway Plaza to pick up more Mustela Wipes and some “requested” items for Grandma. We went to Bath & Body Works to pick up some lotion, wipes, etc … I tried their “Breathe” line of hand creams. One of the scents smelled pretty nice but since I put four different types on my hands I can’t remember which was which. After purchasing our items, I let the armadillo walk around the fountain and he enjoyed himself immensely. He was smiling at people and walked around with such pride and authority. After I let him walk around for about 30 minutes he was livid when I tried to put him back in the stroller. What a thrill for me!

Yesterday I bought a new Halloween costume for the armadillo. I won’t tell you what it is until we have him wear it and I can get a picture. I hope it fits. I originally got him a lion costume but what makes the costume is the hood. The hood has the ears, the nose and the mane. That won’t work because the armadillo won’t wear anything on his head. He hates to wear hats and hoods. He won’t even let me put the sun shade up on the stroller. Is this typical? I’d like to think so.

Goodnight Sweet Pea Blog

My dream of owning an online boutique is slowly becoming a reality but in the meantime I’ve started a companion blog site. This blog will have posts about anything and everything for everyone. I’ll write about great finds, sales, weird products, gadget chic technology, recent shopping purchases, … well what I basically stated earlier … everything and anything that sparks my curiosity. Visit Goodnight Sweet Pea’s blog and let me know what you think!

Armadillo Loves Canadian Geese

Well I finished that book The Second Assistant: A Tale from the Bottom of the Hollywood Ladder by Clare Naylor & Mimi Hare. It was an alright read. It’s a typical story of a verbally abused assistant with no backbone till the end of the story in glamorous Hollywood. I give it a grade of a C … no spark but an easy read.

I think I’m going to jump into Citizen Girl by Emma McLaughlin & Nicola Kraus. I’m a bit hesitant because of the reviews it received off of Amazon.com. It got an average of 2 ½ stars. Not that great, but I'm not an avid follower of reviews ... I'll take it into consideration but not base my life on it.

Yesterday I took the armadillo to Heather Farms Park. It’s a pleasant park setting with differing areas … playgrounds, soccer fields, swim center, tennis courts, etc … Of course we went to the playground area. The armadillo had a blast walking around and touching the differing play fixtures. It was his first time walking in sand. He didn’t know what to make out of it. He stepped in it and suddenly turned his head towards me reaching his hand out to save him. After a couple more times walking in the sand he got used to the feeling of it. The park also had these large Canadian geese walking around. The armadillo got so excited … he was yelling and waving his arms at the flock. I had to make sure that he didn’t get too close as well as not stepping on their huge poop droppings. Yuck. He was having so much fun. We stayed there for about 30 minutes. I think I need to take him to the park more. That way he can expel some of that energy he has and get some playtime with other kids. The armadillo is pretty mild when it comes to interacting with other children. I like that because it’s better than him being too aggressive or pushy. I wish I brought the camera but I guess there will be more photo opportunities I’m sure.

Birthday Party

Yesterday we went to the armadillo’s cousin’s 1st birthday party. It was held at Joan’s Farm & Pumpkin Patch in Livermore. The weather was great and there were a number of things for children to see and do at this farm. Joan’s Farm has pumpkin patches, pony rides, gold panning, hay rides, mines, corn maze, face painting, petting animals, etc … The armadillo had a lot of fun walking around and looking at the sights. I didn’t know a place like this existed. It was very crowded and there were tons of kids. The armadillo got to pick his own pumpkin. It is one of those tiny little pumpkins he can hold in his hand. He loved it. It’s a good thing we washed it because he started chewing on it as soon as he got it.

I wish I wore shoes as there were a lot of dust and dirt. The bottom of my feet got dirty from walking on the dusty ground. The party was a lot of fun and it was good to see B’s family again. Hard to believe that a year has flown by since the armadillo’s cousin was born. How time flies!

Sweet Dreams

Things are going well with our new baby Miso. Miso adores everyone and is a very loving canine companion. She especially loves her big sister Aiko. Miso has taken to sleeping on Aiko’s bed. I’m not sure how Aiko feels about that but she hasn’t said anything to Miso about it yet. It’s very adorable that Miso feels the need to lay down next to Aiko. B-Dad and I get concerned that Aiko will roll over and smush Miso but so far so good. I’m sure Miso will move out of the way in case that happens. Last night the two of them slept on Aiko’s bed all night. How adorable!

Potty Training for the Armadillo

At this point, are you kidding? I’m perfectly fine with the armadillo using diapers and in no means am I anxious on starting him on potty training. Of course eventually we’ll begin when communication is a somewhat easier. Why do I bring this up? Well there is this article on Yahoo in where parents are teaching their children to go to the potty well before they hit their 1 year old mark. Something having to do with the environment, etc … See Yahoo for the full story.

It's a Girl

We brought her home Thursday afternoon and she’s been a pure delight ever since! Her name is Miso [as in miso soup or miso cute!] and she’s a 6 year old Chihuahua. We adopted her this past weekend from our local shelter. Unfortunately we couldn’t take her home right away since she needed to be spayed.

We all love her and Miso is just as sweet as can be. Aiko and Miso appear to get along well. They’re able to hang out together in the backyard when the armadillo and I go out on errands. The only thing is that poor Miso has to keep an eye on Aiko to make sure that Aiko doesn’t step on her.

The cats are extremely curious about Miso. We think it’s that they don’t know what to make of her. She’s definitely not a cat, but she’s small for a dog compared to Aiko. They just stare at her and watch from a distance. Miso doesn’t appear to mind them gawking at her. We’re also very fortunate that so far she’s been very pleasant with the armadillo. Miso lets the armadillo pet her and she doesn’t flinch when the armadillo runs around screaming and playing with his toys.

Miso looks as if she’s settling in pretty well. She’s able to fall asleep next to B-Dad and I when we’re with the armadillo watching TV downstairs. She slept through the night last night in her bed. A couple of times a trip to the bathroom got her a little roused up but we managed to have her settle back in. She even slept through when B-Dad was taking a shower this morning. She appears to be very attached to people. She follows us when we walk around the house. In addition she gets super excited to see us when we come home. She jumps on our legs. Speaking of we’d like to take her to obedience class to teach her some commands. That should be interesting.

Miso is taking her afternoon nap like her “big” sister Aiko. They’re all so precious ... my babies … Aiko, Musubi, Sterling, Miso and of course the armadillo.

Bad Publicity Equal Good Publicity

Actor Josh Holloway who plays Sawyer on the drama “Lost” was robbed at gunpoint along with his wife in their home. See Yahoo for more information.

In this case, is bad publicity still good publicity? For the state of Hawaii, I don't think so.

Aiko's Latest Escape

The latest in the Aiko saga continues. She somehow managed to loosen a board on the gate that enables her to get out of the backyard. I was so confused this morning when I put her out in the backyard that she would ended up in front of the house. I checked the gate and it was secure. Then I noticed that loose board. Oh brother. It’s a good thing she didn’t hurt herself while slipping through that hole. There are a couple of nails sticking out that she could have punctured herself with. That girl is a character. I left her in the house while the armadillo and I went on our errands. I was hoping that she would behave and not bother the cats too much. We came home and she was fine, and so were the cats. Whew!

We went to the library and I let the armadillo walk around. He was so adorable sharing books with a little girl that was there. I love my armadillo. He also had a good time walking around and looking at all of the children’s books. Of course his wandering gene took over and he started to walk around the other sections. But all in all he was very well behaved. Thank goodness!

We finished with the antibiotics and I’m hoping that he’s better. I don’t hear the phlegm anymore which is good. I’ll have to call the doctor tomorrow to see if he should be brought back in for a follow up. The doctor didn’t mention that when we saw her last week.

I’m now reading The Second Assistant: A Tale from the Bottom of the Hollywood Ladder by Clare Naylor & Mimi Hare. I need an “easy” read after finishing The Historian. I was going to tackle Wicked by Gregory Maguire but I didn’t think it would be considered an “easy” read. Hopefully I’ll finish this book this week as it’s only 260 pages, instead of the 650+ pages of The Historian.

Finished

I FINALLY finished the book, The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. Boy that was a difficult read, all 656 pages. At times I was so tempted to skim over parts because I didn’t think they were that pertinent to the story. I thought the ending was a bit rushed and some chapters could have been condensed a smidgen. There were so many places and characters to keep track of that I felt like I needed to write all of this down in a notebook. I’m impressed by all of the facts that the author included. It must have took a lot of research. If I had to give a grade, I’d give it a B-. I would only recommend it if you’re willing to spend hours totally focused on the book and you have a love of European History.

I’m not sure what to read next. Something easy I’m thinking. The next book on my list I suppose will be Goodnight Nobody by Jennifer Weiner.

*SPOILER ALERT FOR HARRY POTTER & THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE *

Oh I also finished the Harry Potter audio CD of the latest book. I was so disillusioned that JK Rowling killed off Dumbledore. I kept waiting for him to wake up and tell them it was all a plan from the beginning. I kept waiting for Snape and Dumbledore to come back together having a good laugh saying how they tricked Lord Voldemort, the Death Eaters, and Draco Malfoy. But that never happened. I also was a bit surprised with the romance between Harry and Jenny Weasley. It just seemed too peculiar. I was also disappointed that there was no battles involving Harry, Ron & Hermoine as in previous books. All in all I guess you could say that it was a let down reading this book. What a shame! My grade for this book would be a C-. Hopefully the next one will be a better and improved one.

Miso Cute

Saw this design at Uncommonly Cute, an adorable online boutique that features apparel for babies. I especially like the “Miso Cute” and “Elmo is my homeboy” tees. These apparel items would make the ideal shower gift or something cool for your little one. Check out their website for more hip designs.

Wanna Try Some Wasabi

Would you give your toddler a jalapeno pepper as a snack? Or feed him spicy curry for dinner? It’s interesting but some families do. And experts are saying that it’s not so bad as your pediatrician would like you to think it is. See the story at Yahoo.com.

But this doesn’t mean that I’m going to give my son wasabi to spread on his rice.

Infection

It appears that the armadillo has some sort of infection. I took him to the doctor since he’s still coughing and I can hear phlegm in his chest. The doctor prescribed him some antibiotics. He is supposed to be getting this medication for the next 5 days. I hope he doesn’t fuss with this medicine. He’s pretty good with liquid medication so I’m crossing my fingers. Poor baby, I hope he’s not too uncomfortable. He’s been sleeping well [knock on wood!] so we’re fortunate that it’s not so unpleasant for him. The armadillo is in good spirits and giggles like crazy when we tickle his neck. Whew!

The hormone is kicking me right now. He’s so active. I’m surprised at this point in my pregnancy the hormone is so vigorous. I wonder what he’s going to be like when he gets closer to term. Ouch!

A New Car

Well we did it. We bought a brand new 2006 Toyota Sequoia. Last night B-Dad sorted out the numbers with the dealership and they came to an agreement. It’s a stunning car. The car is a Limited 4WD with many many options. It has a navigation system, DVD entertainment package, moonroof, leather seats, seats 8, and much much more! It’s very exhilarating to drive this car, but I do have to get used to the size. But it handles very well. Easy to drive and it’s got quite a bit of horsepower. I never knew how huge the car is until I stood next to it. Even the seats inside are farther apart than the 4Runner we previously had. I definitely have to stretch a bit to get things.

I know the armadillo can tell he’s sitting in a different car. He’s always looking around at his surroundings when I put him in his car seat. Now the armadillo has a DVD player for when he gets older. I don’t think at this point he’ll pay much attention to what’s playing since he’s so young. I’m sure at some point he’ll be asking me to put in his Dora The Explorer DVD much to B-Dad’s delight.

Expect Great Things at Kohl's

The armadillo and I went to the Grand Opening of Kohl’s. It was extrememly busy. They opened at 8am and B-Dad drove by on the way to work and he said that it was packed. The first 500 people received a free tote, but unfortunately I wasn’t one of them. Kohl’s had their Grand Opening Sale therefore there were numerous items marked down. Of course I picked up some stuff for myself and the armadillo. I bought a couple purses and maternity sweaters for myself. Specific toys were on sale for 50% off so I purchased a number of them for the armadillo. Oh I also picked up a pair of Vans sneakers for myself. They’re adorable. I remember Vans from high school, long, long, LONG time ago. But the pair I bought is not of the checkerboard variety. I was thinking that it was too bad that my parents were not here. I know my mom would have loved “browsing” around. She would have definitely filled one of those rolling baskets to the brim much to my dad's displeasure.

It’s too bad they don’t have a café in the store. That way the husbands would have somewhere to go and sit down, kill time and relax while their wives spent their retirement money. So far my only complaint about this Kohl’s store is that the elevator is tiny and they only have one. You should have seen the line of women with strollers and shopping baskets [roller types] that were waiting for the elevator. What a hassle!

But in my opinion I prefer Target to Kohl’s. At least Target has a café/Starbucks to sit down and take a breather. Plus if an elevator is required it’s a spacious one. Just my 2 cents!

The Historian

I’m still reading The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. It’s quite a long read and unfortunately I don’t have all the time in the world to read it. The book so far is one of those where I feel that I have to understand everything, which is quite thorny at times when there are descriptions of the Ottoman Empire, Eastern Europe, etc … It's not an easy read that's for sure.

I’m almost finished with the Audio CD of the latest Harry Potter book. The story just flies by. I didn’t realize how close I was to the end. I’m hoping to finish it soon as I always get anxious towards the end of the bok.

W.O.W.

Photo from Yahoo

Honda has designed a dog-friendly vehicle. Honda is calling it their W.O.W. concept – “wonderful openhearted wagon”. There are special crates for dogs in the front and back for trouble-free transport. For dogs that are too big for the crates there are special seat belts that you can use to buckle your canine loved ones in. The W.O.W. vehicle comes with washable rollout flooring [which is a big help!] and sliding doors for effortless entry and exit. See Yahoo for more about the W.O.W. vehicle.

Where's Aiko

Today is the second day in a row that Aiko got out from the backyard. Somehow she must have managed to open the door to the backyard and got loose. Yesterday was amusing since she was sitting in the driveway when the armadillo and I got home barking at the UPS guy. I don’t know how long she was out but I was glad that she didn’t run away.

Well today was a different story. The armadillo and I arrived home after being out for a few hours and I made a point of looking at the gate. It appeared close to me. I brought the armadillo in and waited for Aiko to show up at the sliding door begging to come in. After a few minutes she wasn’t there. I started to get anxious. I opened the sliding door and called her name a few times. No jangling of the collar and hearing her paws scrape the ground as she usually comes running to the door. I held my breath and walked outside. There was no sign of her. I noticed that the brick to hold the gate was moved and it wasn’t latched on properly. She was gone. Aiko was nowhere to be seen. Skipping over the finer details, I called B-Dad and asked him to call Animal Services if anyone called in a stray matching Aiko’s description. While he was doing that the armadillo and I canvassed the neighborhood. I had the windows down, calling her name over and over and over again. After about 15 minutes I started panicking. What if she a car hit her? I didn’t want to pull up to her lying in the road. What if she was picked up the Animal Services? Where could she have gone? Did she head towards the train tracks? Did she decide to visit Wal Mart or heaven forbid somehow manage to get herself on the freeway? I couldn’t go through it again. The loss of another loved one. I lost Lucy in August and I couldn’t lose Aiko only a mere two months later. Not like this. After 20 minutes had passed there she was, turning the corner near the tennis courts. I pulled over and called her name. Her head turned and she ran towards me. I opened the back and she jumped in. She was panting hard. I wondered how long she was out and about. It appeared to be awhile since she was practically near exhaustion. I called B-Dad and we were both so relieved that I found her. The armadillo felt the same way as he got very excited when she hopped in the back.

Poor baby Aiko. We're just glad she's home.

Invasion of Da Doo Run Run

He’s back! My childhood crush is still active in show business. Who is that you ask? Well it’s the one and only Shaun Cassidy. I fully admit that I had a huge crush on him in my younger days. I also went to a concert that he had back home … how exhilarating! I remember standing in the concert hall wearing my pastel blue satin jacket with his image printed on the back. Oh those were the days!

Now how did I come across him in these recent times? B-Dad and I were watching the new show Invasion the other night, on TIVO of course, and his name popped up on the credits. He wrote the 2nd episode of the season. I googled his name and lo and behold is the creator of the show! Have you seen Invasion yet? The premise of the story can be found at TV.com. So far so good as far as the show goes. I didn’t realize that he was so involved in the Hollywood business world. He’s also a producer with the show Cold Case on CBS.

I’m hoping that Shaun Cassidy will make a guest appearance of sorts in one of the Invasion shows. That would be an amazing flash from the past experience!
